We will be very sensitive with kind and affectionate treatment so that the child can begin to see that the dentist is a friend and that all he/she wants to do is to check on and look after the child’s teeth. We don’t want to be the cause of bad experiences that the child will then “carry for the rest of his/her life”.
This is why if the treatment cannot be performed on any given day due to fear or lack of collaboration,
IT DOESN’T MATTER. The child must feel free and know that the appointment can be delayed.
It is important for parents to remember that children “inherit” many things from them, amongst them fears and phobias. In the event that you are frightened of the dentist, make sure your child never finds out. You have no idea how much it will help your child and the “burden” it will take off his/her shoulders. As for the rest (the good and positive experience), leave it all in our hands.
The Protocol we follow is that of the Spanish Society of Paediatric Dentistry:
- Six monthly check-ups
- Prevention Techniques: hygiene instructions, motivation, sealing of cavities and fissures and topical fluoridation (see Prevention)
- Clinical examination to detect caries and gingivitis. X-rays.
- Occlusal study (how you bite) to establish whether Orthodontics will be required (see Orthodontics)
